An honest question because we don't know the answer . . .
WHAT SHOULD WE THINK OF ACTIVISTS BUILDING BENCHES FOR KANSAS CITY BUS STOPS?!?
On one hand . . .
As we approach the holiday season and colder weather . . . They're right. People riding the bus deserve a place to rest their feet that was formerly a local resource provided until very recently.
However . . .
Even worse . . .
The Bench Build bolsters the local "Zero Fare" movement that was recently encouraged by a Mamdani win in NYC despite local setbacks which clearly demonstrated that freebie bus rides don't work.
We're torn . . .
Involving the public in neighborhood improvements is a worthy goal but not in the name of sketchy policy that degraded a public resource and endangered passengers, union drivers and innocent bus riders.
Per ushe . . .
We don't claim to have any answers . . .
But we do admit this effort deserves a bit more attention for Sunday . . .
Kansas Citians deserve a place to rest while they wait for the bus, so we are organizing to make that happen by building benches for the people, by the people! We need you! 🫵 Join us for a day spent crafting benches with fellow comrades.
What to expect:
👷 You will learn the process of bench-making and put those new skills to work in bringing benches to life within small working groups.
🛠️ Tool and safety training will be provided.
👯 You’ll experience the satisfaction of creation and knowing your work is tangibly supporting your community!
😎 Snacks, music, & good vibes
