Hashing Out 2025 Jackson County Property Tax Beef On FB?!?

There's more to this story and we'll try to do follow-up but let's start with what's most important . . .

Upcoming JaxCo property tax assessments and how they're calculated.

Here's where we should stand . . .

The latest Order Regarding Jackson County 2025 Residential Property Tax Assessments direct(ed) (former) County Assessor Gail McCann Beatty’s office to reset the 2023 assessment to no more than 15% of 2022 assessed values.

Then, using that as a new baseline for the 2023-24 tax years, Jackson County must limit property reassessments for 2025 to no more than 15% of the recalculated value.

Jackson County’s legal department has assured the STC in writing it will comply with the new order, STC Chief Counsel Gregory Allsberry said . . .

Now . . .

We notice an FB ruckus that's twofold . . .

THERE REALLY IS A DEMAND TO PUT PRESTON SMITH INTO OFFICE IMMEDIATELY TO HELP SORT OUT THE HOT MESS!!!

We understand that urge AND we, as we've noted, we think he's the best guy for the job of appointed assessment director.

Interestingly . . . And this is also important . . .

We notice Exec LeVota actively participating in discussion with the "Fight Jackson County Missouri Assessments" group and pushing back against some complaints.

To his credit . . .

Tax Fighter Preston Smith welcomes the discussion . . . And this signals HOPE that the Courthouse will work toward some kind of solution to so many longstanding complaints.

In the meantime . . .

We've linked money lines from both Preston and Exec LeVota so that readers can learn more . . .

Exec LeVota: "I get it, the people of Jackson County have been screwed over but I am working on it. I appreciate the folks on here realizing it has been just over a month and I have agreed to implement the 2024 STC order which immediately gave relief to tens of thousands. I dealt with the 2025 commercial increases where the assessor tried to go after commercial properties since the residentials were fighting back. I am now working on policy to deal with those folks who made agreements who want to get the lower reduction that those who didn't appeal will be receiving. I have not finalized and never made a final policy about the people who have made agreements."

Also . . .

Preston Smith: "I appreciate you posting on this group's Facebook pages and responding to people's concerns. That is a transparency and openness that we haven't ever seen from a County official here in Jackson County. From what you have written and said, I believe that you want to do the right thing to the taxpayers of this county and that you are moving as fast as you can to get this done. I will show more patience since it is not at the same pace that I would desire."
