For most furloughed government workers, constant shut downs have been a bit of a joke and a paid vacation BUT NOW . . . The MAGA "reduction in force" move is the first time in a long time when furloughed workers confront cuts . . .

Of course this is a VERY BIG DEAL because the federal government is the largest employer in the Kansas City metro and the shutdown is already sending shock waves across the local economy and fear of layoffs looms over many households.

The Trump administration began laying off federal workers on Friday, the 10th day of the U.S. government shutdown.

“The RIFs have begun,” Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought wrote on X, using the acronym for “Reductions in Force.”

Unions representing government employees vowed to fight the layoffs with lawsuits.
