In no particular order, we wanted to share a quick summary of problems confronting the new boss which give way to the question . . .
WILL PHIL TRIUMPH OR GO DOWN IN FLAMES?!?!?
The courthouse is tough inasmuch as everyone he's working with hopes for the latter whilst we merely serve to highlight some of the obvious (and not so obvious) struggles . . .
Check-it . . .
Problem #1 He's Not The "Interim Exec", He's The Exec
It'll take about a month to get all the newsies on the same page since most of them have it confused this week and nobody has time to read the charter.
Property Tax Reform Is Tougher Than It Looks
He'll have some help from the Legislature here if only because they want to keep their jobs as well. The talk is tough and everyone needs a tax break . . . Using his Jeff City connection might be the key to his secret sauce.
Give Away Store To Royals & Chiefs?!??
That's pretty much the tactic of most politicos in both Missouri & Kansas . . . The problem is how to do it without being too cringe-y . . . In this instance, Exec LeVota has the advantage as a much better politician than is predecessor.
Eastern Jack Outreach
If Exec LeVota can get Eastern Jack on board with his agenda, he'll be unstoppable and a new power in metro politics. IF NOT . . . He'll confront the same problems that every other Exec has faced and the last two guys who had this job will NEVER hold elected office again.
Old Enemies Already Emerging . . .
Social media already features some pretty tawdry and TOTALLY UNCONFIRMED mudslinging against Exec LeVota . . . Old critics are dusting off their gloves and now seem ready to fight. Yes, thanks to AWESOME TKC READERS, we've seen some of the nastier stuff and we're taking credit for "breaking" the story if only to steal the thunder from activists who get book deals for their advocacy . . . Rest assured, Jackson County politics ALWAYS gets nasty and this new administration shouldn't expect any different.
That's just a bit of our www.TonysKansasCity.com blogging on the topic and we welcome any and all insights that aren't outright garbage . . .
