YEARS AFTER PROMISING GROUNDBREAKING ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRESS, KCI ISN'T CLOSE TO BUILDING SOLAR ARRAY!!!
Actually . . .
They even scaled back plans and probably won't get anything off the ground before Mayor Q's term expires.
Critics can probably blame the former city manager who was recently booted but it was a feel good effort that was endorsed most 12th & Oak insiders.
Here's a basic summary quote that proves TKC commenters might be cantankerous (or worse) but they're amongst the best in the metro when calling out bunk . . . Check-it:
"Installing solar panels on KCI's undeveloped land would represent a bold stride in service of city sustainability goals, including carbon neutrality by 2040, officials said dating to 2021. A KCI solar array might even rank as the nation's largest at a U.S. airport, yielding up to 500 megawatts (MW) — enough to power 70,000 homes — if fully built out across all 3,131 available acres in the airport's footprint, a city-commissioned feasibility study found in May 2022.
"Now, it remains to be seen when any solar project, even on a fraction of that scale, could start around KCI. As of Saturday, a federal environmental assessment needed as a solar farm prerequisite has been inactive for more than a year."
