"Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe has issued an executive order requesting that the USDA allow the state to ban the use of SNAP benefits for purchasing sugary snacks.
"The order calls on the USDA to allow Missouri to ban the use of SNAP benefits for buying items like candy, carbonated drinks, as well as certain juices and desserts. Gov. Kehoe cites health concerns, including heart disease and diabetes, as reasons for the proposed restrictions."
