“The Secretary of State said that it was a crime to gather signatures and petition your government unless you had his approval? That is ridiculous!” said attorney Chuck Hatfield, who’s working with People Not Politicians.

Hoskins' announcement explained that “under Missouri law, no signatures gathered before this approval date are valid, and doing so constitutes a misdemeanor election offense.”

“[It’s} a blatant attempt to shorten the amount of time they had and to make it harder, and it’s not legal,” Hatfield responded.
