A group of Missourians against the death penalty is asking Governor Mike Kehoe to change his mind about an impending execution. To get Kehoe’s attention, the group is walking 30 miles from Columbia to Jefferson City, where they will then silently protest outside his office.
Lance Shockley is scheduled to die by lethal injection on Tuesday. He was convicted in the 2005 murder of Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Carl Dewayne Graham Jr.
Monday morning, Kehoe denied appeals to stop Shockley’s execution, issuing a statement that reads, “Violence against those who risk their lives every day to protect our communities will never be tolerated. Missouri stands firmly with our men and women in uniform.”
