Kansas City’s historic Country Club Plaza could close its main retail street to cars under new design guidelines that prioritize pedestrians over automobiles in the century-old shopping district.
Master Planned Development District documents indicated that a number of changes are being considered for the Plaza.
The plan was submitted on Tuesday for approval to Compass KC, the City’s development tracker and database.
“Throughout its 100-year history, Country Club Plaza has evolved and adapted as Kansas City grew and developed,” the document read. “Now seen as a regional, if not national treasure, the Plaza must once again evolve while maintaining its unique history and character.”
