Megan Smith Against DaRon McGee For New Jackson County Exec

Actually . . . There has been a surprising amount of resistance beyond this Legislator who fell out with the "Freedom Bloc" over the stadium issue last year.

Previously . . . TKC noted that he's the favorite for the open gig.

What so many voters don't understand . . .

The next Exec won't be the "interim" . . . Kay Barnes has the interim job. The next vote of the Legislature will name the new Exec with all of the power and privileges of the office.

Chairman McGee only has to get to five votes and that SHOULD be easy for him if only because most people can't even name their Legislator.

However . . .

Right now there's a scramble to lobby & push the Legislature toward other options.

One of the major motivators . . . The new Exec will have the advantages of incumbency in the next election.

Meanwhile . . .

Good old fashioned mud-slinging and courthouse political intrigue have started to a surprising degree.

A former colleague and ally is now openly calling out the Chairman whilst other supporters are feeling pressure to turn their endorsement toward other candidates . . . Check-it:

Jackson County Legislator Megan Smith, who once supported McGee’s rise to chairman, publicly opposes McGee as the possible executive — directly referencing FOX4’s reporting from last week.

“While I supported him for chair during my first year on the legislature, recent information regarding his time in Jefferson City raises significant concerns about his ability to serve effectively and with integrity,” Smith.
