Kansas House Speaker Clowns Guv Kelly 'Sonny & Cher Statewide Duet' Tour

A classic reference amid political debate that deserves a bit of comedy respect . . .

"Kelly announced on Oct. 6 that she is launching her statewide listening tour this fall with eight scheduled visits to different communities across the Sunflower State. Dubbed, “The People’s Budget,” Kelly will speak directly with the state’s residents during the tour to gather their thoughts ahead of the upcoming legislative session in the spring of 2026."

Kansas Republican House Speaker Dan Hawkins clowed the effort with a dated but pretty hilarious comeback . . .

“After seven years in office, Governor Kelly has announced she and Secretary Profitt are living
out their inner Sonny and Cher and launching a statewide duet tour,” Hawkins said. “I hope in addition to their vocal stylings, they offer real budget solutions. For years, the governor has offered criticism and mixed messages while offering no concrete plans to reduce spending in executive branch agencies. Meanwhile, the legislature took the bull by the horns, implementing a new budget process that cut spending by $233 million this year, a reduction of over $30 million from the Governor’s own proposal.”
