In her speech, Kelly discussed accomplishments while in office, the hope the state can elect another Democrat to be the state’s next governor next year, and how proud she is of those across the state who participated in protests on Saturday. Kansans came out in droves for No Kings protests in Wichita, Overland Park, in front of the State Capitol in Topeka, and more.
“It was thousands upon thousands of Kansans doing what I always thought Kansans were capable of doing, which was making it clear that we are The Free State,” said Kelly after wrapping up her speech. “A common sense, no drama, just let’s live our lives and let others live their lives, and let’s protect our democracy, honor the constitution, and abide by the rule of law. Let’s not succumb to the forces that are being sent out from Washington, DC right now, but to stand up and fight against that so we can preserve what’s so important. What makes the United States the United States, and what makes Kansas, Kansas.”
