Now, here are the not-so-relevant deets of our civic transit disaster in the making . . .  

 

MAIN STREET EXTENSION GRAND OPENING CEREMONY DETAILS 

This is the week Kansas City has been waiting for with the opening of the KC Streetcar Main Street Extension and it all starts with an official ceremony at the new Plaza Transit Stop. 

WHAT: The KC Streetcar Main Street Extension — a 3.5-mile expansion from Union Station to the University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC) — officially opens to the public with a community celebration and ceremony. This milestone marks a major step forward in connecting downtown, midtown, the Country Club Plaza, and UMKC with efficient, fare-free, and frequent public transit. City and regional leaders, project partners, and community members will gather to celebrate this historic occasion with remarks and the ceremonial first departure of the KC Streetcar from the new Plaza Transit Stop.

WHEN: Friday, October 24, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.

WHERE: Plaza Transit Stop (Cleaver II Boulevard & Main Street). Guests are encouraged to take public transit to the ceremony. RideKC bus routes 35, 47, and 401 all go to the Plaza. Guests can also park at the UMKC parking garage at 5050 Oak Street and then walk along the Trolley Track Trail to access the Plaza Transit Stop.
