Kansas City Streetcar Fateful Question: Ride It After Dark?!?

That's it . . .

Here's what will inevitably provide the final judgement on nearly 350 MILLION BUCKS worth of local "transit" investment:

WILL KANSAS CITY RESIDENTS & TOURISTS FEEL SAFE TO RIDE THE TOY TRAIN AFTER DARK?!?

To start, sure.

On the current line, it's a fun ride when streets are crowded after a concert or a major event.

However . . .

On most weekday nights, it's a waste of electricity.

Moreover . . .

Things in KC always get tougher over time and STREETCAR SAFETY is the question all of our fellow journalists don't want to ask and INVARIABLY the greatest challenge facing the extension.

And so we share a bit of their party planning transcription . . .

"The opening ceremony is set for 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 24 at the Plaza streetcar stop. After that, riders can hop on or off at any stop along the route. A few celebrations are planned for the opening weekend.

"On Wednesday’s preview, the car traveled south from Union Station to UMKC and back, stopping at select parts of the route so representatives could step out of the car, take photos and speak with members on the team. The ride back to Union Station from UMKC took around 15 minutes long without any stops."
