City Hall is giving the district a lot of leeway and some impressive PR has offset most criticism.
However . . . It's fair to ask . . .
WILL ANOTHER BUILDING BOOM RUIN WHAT'S LEFT OF THE PLAZA?!?
On the bright side . . . Owners putting forward some kind of scheme is encouraging if only because the litany of closed stores isn't sustainable.
Then again . . .
Mixed-use developments with a few section 8 properties thrown in for good measure likely won't spark a high-end retail renaissance.
And so . . . We merely offer another look at how things are moving forward . . .
The Plaza’s new owner, Gillon Property Group, recently submitted plans to Kansas City outlining its vision for the future of the district. The group wants to make the area more friendly to pedestrians and increase the allowable height of buildings, in a process that will take several years.
