Northland Assistance Center in North Kansas City is in charge of providing emergency housing for those who need it.
The organization’s executive director told North Kansas City’s councilmembers this week the area experienced a spike in the number of people who needed assistance last winter. Rita Pearce said the increase in demand is because people don’t have other options.
“There are no homeless shelters in the Northland. None. I can’t reiterate that enough. I’ve done that for five years now. We do not have homeless shelters in the Northland,” Rita Pearce, Northland Assistance Center Executive Director, said.
