Kansas City works to help more people in need of assistance as the government shutdown drags on and partisan bickering seems more detached from hard times on local streets.
Here's another update . . .
Food banks are seeing an increase in demand from people in need and federal workers who aren't being paid, as well as people who rely on SNAP benefits to make ends meet each month.
"That is going to have really significant consequences for folks in our region who are already facing food insecurity on top of the folks who might be facing food insecurity for the very first time because of this shutdown," said Elizabeth Keever, chief resource officer for Harvesters Community Food Network.
Keever said in the Kansas City region, about 30,000 people make up the civilian federal workforce. Those employees have already received an incomplete paycheck since the government shutdown started.
