She advised families to have a preparedness plan that includes financial information, attorney contact information, or information for advocacy groups like AIRRKC.

"Most of the time we have mixed status families, where the parents are not yet green card holders, but the children are U.S. citizens, we got to make sure the children are taken care of," she said.

She also recommended including financial information in the plan, such as who has access to accounts and who can withdraw or transfer money.
