Jackson County Prosecutor Rejects Charges Against Redistricting Petitioners

Missouri Secretary of State Denny Hoskins said Wednesday that roughly 100,000 signatures gathered so far for a referendum over a new congressional map won't count. Hoskins said on Wednesday that he'd approved the referendum for circulation but added in a press release that "no signatures gathered before this approval date are valid, and doing so constitutes a misdemeanor election offense." 

Today's statement that might start "critiques" against the courthouse from Republicans . . . Check-it: 

Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa announced that due to "contradictory guidance about when signatures would be valid," and delays in the now-approved petition, the prosecutor's office will not be seeking criminal charges against Jackson County residents who signed a petition twice, hoping to repeal Missouri's new congressional map.
