Reopening the Federal Government and Lowering Health Care Costs

Hello Neighbor,

On October 1, the federal government shut down because Donald Trump and conservatives in Washington would not agree to legislation that kept the government open while lowering health care costs.

A government shutdown means that thousands of federal workers in Missouri and across the Fifth Congressional District have been furloughed, some of our beautiful National Parks have been forced to close to visitors, and our troops and federal law enforcement are working without pay.

That is unacceptable.

I’ve been in Washington, ready to work on a bipartisan solution to reopen the government and prevent health care premiums from more than doubling for 46,000 people in Missouri’s Fifth Congressional District—but Speaker Mike Johnson has not called the House back for votes, meaning the House cannot vote to end the shutdown. In fact, the Speaker sent conservatives home more than two weeks ago.

Do you think Republicans should work with Democrats to reopen the government and lower health care costs?
