According to an initial report, around 7:20 a.m. on Oct. 14, the girl was riding her bike across the street at Longview Road and Food Lane Drive. She was in the crosswalk and had a green light, KCPD noted.
At the same time, a white Ford Transit van was driving north on Food Lane Drive. It turned left onto Longview Road and hit the girl. Paramedics took the child to an area hospital, where she later died.
