Here's how it works, there's a box in the car with three switches.
One switch lowers the arm. The second switch deploys the net, and the last switch is the emergency release.
Patrol Sgt. Travis Gardner said, to use the grappler, the officer will lower the arm, drive it under the rear tire of the suspect's vehicle and wrap the net around the tire—bringing the car to a stop.
"Once it stops traction on the tire, it begins pulling the tether out," Gardner said.
"Ours are about 30 feet of total slack that we have to bring the car to a stop, and within several seconds – depending on how fast the officer breaks, or how fast the suspect breaks or just speed in general – it'll bring the car to a stop in seconds."
