KC Defender: 'Black Joy Has Been Stripped From Mizzou'

Possibly the most interesting story lede we've seen so far this year if only because it sounds like a castaway movie title from the Super Fly franchise.

TKC fun fact and #TBT origin story: There was an African-American student group at UMKC in the late 90s with the moniker "The Black Hole" and during our brief tenure as a student columnist, the group was "inspired" to change their name because of some clever teasing by yours truly . . . One of these days we'll share our scrap book and reveal what might be our very best fart joke.

Here's a peek at more current college complaints that also feature a bit of nostalgia for a time when people still cared about traditional student protest . . .

"Black joy has been stripped from Mizzou students yet again as the university cancels a back-to-school event that centers its Black community. Nearly a decade after the hunger strike that brought the school’s racist history to light, little has changed. 

"The University of Missouri-Columbia (MU) is once again at the center of racial controversy. The school came under fire after administrators cancelled the Legion of Black Collegians’ Black 2 Class Block Party, simply because the word “Black” was in the title."

Mizzou Targets Black Students With Racist Censorship

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Concerned Student 1950 protests that rocked the campus and country, but the patterns from back then seem to be on repeat for Black students in present day.
