The Kansas City Police Department said the preliminary investigation revealed a black SUV was driving north on North Jackson Avenue. The child was riding a scooter on East Windsor Avenue and failed to stop at a stop sign. Police said this caused the collision.
The child was taken to an area hospital. Police said he is in critical but stable condition.
