"The Kansas City Fire Department was called to the two-story apartment building on Independence Avenue near Kensington Avenue just before 1 a.m. Friday.
"As firefighters searched the building, they found one person and removed them from the apartment, the fire department said. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. "

One person was found dead at an apartment fire on Independence Avenue in northeast Kansas City, MO early Sept. 18, the fire department said.
