A horrific injury, a reminder about public safety, deets about the dangerous driver who remains on local streets and an outpouring of local sympathy and help . . . Check-it:
Dr. Saswat Das was biking near 39th Street and Harrison Parkway when the driver of a car hit him and left the scene.
Das moved to Kansas City in July to start his fellowship as a pediatric cardiologist at Children's Mercy.
“I feel like this is just a prime example of why do these things happen to good people? Because honestly, how much better can you get than a pediatric cardiologist?” his cousin explained. “I have had so many of his friends reach out from as far back as high school, college, medical school, residency, and even the friends he's made in Kansas City that I've had the chance to communicate with. They've only known each other a couple of months, and they're already like, Yes, he’s become one of our really good friends.”
Das was biking on 39th Street on the night of Wednesday, Sept. 17. KCPD says a red Hyundai Sonata hit him and took off. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and is still in critical condition.
