This pull quote reminds us that New York socialists are even more reckless than our own cowtown brand of progressives . . .
"Kansas City at least tried to identify funding sources before it instituted a free-fare policy. Mamdani and his team claim it will be no problem to find the money but offer few specifics."
In the meantime . . . Here's one line from a worthwhile summary of freebie politics . . .
"In April, Kansas City, Missouri, announced that it was reinstating fares—five years after becoming the first major city to eliminate them. Kansas City’s program had run out of the federal Covid-19 relief dollars it had relied on to cover foregone annual fare revenue, which had amounted to $9 million in 2019, the last year before zero fares. Other sources of revenue are not sufficient and, facing competing budgetary demands, local authorities plan to impose a $2.00 per ride fare.
"Score one for Economics 101. There is no free lunch—or free ride. Econ 101 also teaches that increasing demand for a limited and already stretched system, with no additional funds for maintenance, staffing, and equipment, will inevitably lead to lower-quality service."

Free Buses in New York Are a Recipe for Disaster
