Kansas City 2025 Homicide #118: Victim Shot Dead At Intersection

Latest deadly local police report as this year's homicide pace continues to move ahead of last year's count despite hope of progress . . . 

Homicide Gardner and N Chouteau 

This evening (9/23) just before 8:30 PM officers were dispatched to the intersection of Gardiner and N. Chouteau Ave. on a reported shooting.

When officers arrived to the scene, they located a vehicle that had been stopped near the intersection with an unresponsive, adult male victim inside. Upon further evaluation, officers determined the individual was suffering from apparent, gunshot trauma, and immediately began rendering medical aid until EMS personnel responded. The adult male victim was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.

Preliminary investigation indicates the victim was inside of the vehicle when he was struck by gunfire. It is undetermined at this time if the suspect was an individual inside of another vehicle, or traveling on foot. We do not currently have a person of interest identified and there is not anyone in police custody.

Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to the scene to begin gathering evidence and collecting witness statements. This incident is being investigated as a homicide and is ongoing at this time.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
