We'll have more on this but, as final voting is now underway, we think this statement stands out and we wanted to share it for anybody who hasn't yet taken notice . . . Here's the word:
County Executive Frank White, Jr. Calls on Legislature to Commit to Transparent Process for Potential Vacancy
Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. today urged the County Legislature to publicly commit to an open, competitive process to fill any potential vacancy in the Office of County Executive, should tomorrow’s recall election succeed.
“Tomorrow, at 11:00 a.m., the Legislature has one more opportunity to promise voters that they will follow the same fair and transparent process used in the past to fill countywide offices,” White said. “That is the process that gave us leaders like Sheriff Darryl Forte and Prosecuting Attorney Jean Peters Baker—an open call for applications or nominations, guidance from respected nonpartisan professionals, and public interviews before any final decision.”
To this point, legislators have dodged questions, claimed the right to vote for themselves, and made clear the public will not get a say in who represents them.
“We should all be scared,” White said. “The people of Jackson County deserve honesty, fairness, and transparency. Instead, it appears we are being set up for backroom deals that will decide the future of our county.”
White called on residents to take action: “Please call your legislators today and demand that they announce, at tomorrow’s meeting, a thorough, open process to select any successor. Even more importantly, show up to the meeting tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. and demand a fair process in person. Our community cannot afford anything less.”
