Here's Why Kansas City Should Embrace Missouri Redistricting

Only people without imagination fear change away from the status quo.

More than anything else, TKC readers should see an incredible opportunity for Kansas City at the outset of the current Missouri redistricting controversy.

First of all . . .

It's not gerrymandering any more than it Republicans once helped to loop nearly every Black neighborhood into Missouri's 5th District so that the GOP didn't have to answer any concerns from constituents outside their demographic wheelhouse.

For the record . . .

Congressman Cleaver's district was designed specifically for him, and so was Rep. Ike Skelton's seat before that . . . Most politicos don't know anything other than working elections to their advantage; It's politics per ushe and not the downfall of Democracy.

More importantly . . .

The color that REALLY rules politics is GREEN and Kansas City will now serve as the financial center of THREE congressional districts if the new maps move forward . . .

New districts intersecting our cowtown means more local access to D.C., an easier path to elected officials and more Beltway focus on the needs of Kansas City.

Remember . . .

History shows us that urban population centers ALWAYS dominate nearby rural areas and now leaders in Kansas City will have a chance to cut in front of the line against po'dunk neighbors.

And again . . .

THIS IS THE GREATEST OPPORTUNITY MISSOURI DEMOCRATS HAVE EVER WITNESSED TO REBRAND THEMSELVES BEYOND IDENTITY POLITICS!!!

Smart leaders who can speak both urban & rural populations will now have a chance to move forward without caving to ridiculous ideas from local nitwits who have always mistakenly believed that the Crossroads is akin to Midtown Manhattan NYC.

Don't get it twisted . . .

TKC loves Congressman Cleaver and we'd be perfectly happy if he kept his place until retirement.

But . . .

Times change and the current defeatist propaganda espoused by Missouri Democrats this week is simply more confirmation that local progressives lack the creativity to imagine a world beyond a smallish bubble that's soon to burst.

In fairness . . .

Here's a peek at what local dems are saying . . .

“Keeping the black community separated from the Ward Parkway corridor in Kansas City,” State Rep. Mark Sharp, a Democrat from Kansas City, said. “It’s disgusting what’s happening today.”

After six hours of testimony, the redistricting committee voted 10-4 to advance the bill. On Friday, another committee will take up redistricting ahead of a full House vote, expected on Monday.
