Double Take: KCFD Honcho Passes Torch

This one deserves another look if only because the newspaper decided to kick the guy in the pants on his way out . . . Which is their custom after public officials don't have any power to push back.

Here's the newspaper summary . . .

"Kansas City Fire Chief Ross Grundyson, whose nearly three-year term has been marked by the deaths of two firefighters, lawsuits and felony charges against some in his ranks, will retire in January, he announced Monday in an email to the department."

That's A LOT of supposition and we thought it would be fair to include a better write-up from TV news as well . . .

"According to his email, after some extensive thought and conversations with his wife, as well as City Manager Mario Vasquez and union leadership, Grundyson will "pass the torch" in January 2026. He served nearly 30 years with the department and was announced as the interim fire chief in January 2023."
