Previously charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon in connection with an incident at St. Luke's Hospital on the Plaza in July 2024.

Charging documents from that incident allege Valdes attempted to enter a restricted area of the hospital.

Hospital security officers received a panic alarm trip from the hospital's cafe. When they arrived, they were met by a hospital employee who claimed Valdes assaulted them and that they wanted to press charges.

Valdes reportedly told the officers he was there to get food. As the officers approached him, Valdes reportedly began to resist. During the ensuing "scuffle," Valdes allegedly pulled a handgun and aimed it at the security officers. That gun went off during the scuffle. During his arrest, an officer noted Valdes uttering, "I was going to kill all three of you."
