KCI Artsy Disaster Redux

For the record . . .

The very worst thing about the new Kansas City airport that NOBODY mentions is the omission of a dedicated pedestrian walkway from the parking lot to the terminal. It's a glaring oversight that has caused traffic jams & distress. 

Also . . .

So much cash for sketchy public art was also silly . . . And that's easier to talk about . . . Check-it:  

"Some 2,800 spinners that make up the work by artist Nick Cave, titled “The Air Up There,” hung from inside the new Kansas City International Airport terminal, until one spinner fell in October 2024. The sculpture was removed while the city determines out how or whether to reinstall it."

KCI artwork that fell from ceiling weighed up to 10 pounds. Can it be made safe?

"They're heavy, sharp, steel disks," an airport official said, adding that the possibility that another one might fall and strike one of the 40,000 people who travel through the terminal each day was not a chance the city was about to take.
