Kansas City Star STILL Doesn't Count Homicides Correctly

Actually, this is an upbeat post . . .

AWESOME TKC READERS helped push back misleading newspaper reporting.

Here's how . . .

The Star counts police shootings on their homicide list . . . Most of the time, that's defensive gunfire that is deemed "justified" very much like any other case of self-defense in KCMO which ALSO doesn't make the homicide list.

Here at TKC we go by KCPD numbers that are updated daily on the "blue sheet" that monitors all deadly crime within city limits. The data set is important because it's peer reviewed and conforms to Uniform Crime Reporting standards that are ultimately compiled every year and sent to the FBI and reviewed by the Department of Justice.

This is much more accurate than a single local media outlet making up their own stats and TKC readers made this case to local TV news stations that also follow KCPD numbers rather than taking their lead from the newspaper.

Sadly, it's not all good news.

As of this writing the KCPD count is 98 for 2025 and will probably hit 100 by the end of the week.
