Since 2021, Kansas City taxpayers have paid out nearly $20.8 million to resolve lawsuits filed against the police department, including claims of wrongful death, excessive force, discrimination, and other alleged misconduct, according to police records.
Halfway into 2025, the Kansas City Board of Police Commissioners approved paying $6 million in legal settlements, an increase from the nearly $3 million paid out in all of 2024.
