Kansas City Playlist: Another Bus Funding Contract Fight Awaits

Recent resolution regarding a bus funding contract is only temporary.

Close local news watchers already know this . . .

The Kansas City ATA contract battle has only been delayed until April and next time around it's going to be even more bitter given that the Exec MIGHT have been recalled . . .

Accordingly . . .

Just for our most dedicated readers we share the www.TonysKansasCity.com playlist on the topic of the bus, transit and rolling around this cowtown . . . RIGHT BACK to the same place all over again . . .

Weird Al's 1983 iconic cover of another iconic track from Queen isn't doesn't just provide the EPIC origin story of his career but probably serves to encapsulate most public perceptions about mass transit that still persist for better and worse . . .

This is the original song from the old man dancing on the way to Six Flags commercial that still haunts the dreams of TKC . . . It's called "The Vengabus" by The Venga Boys and it speaks to 90s-era techno-garbage that strangely seems more meaningful than most contemporary pop music.

A classic from Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top "Waiting On The Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago" . . . Interestingly, this track from 1973 still speaks to the gritty & rough nature of bus rides at the low-end.

For the bridge, we like "The Magic Bus" by The Who if only because by now we should all know it's much more than a rough metaphor but instead serves as cultural artifact for a whimsical time when so much optimism about the power of cultural/generational revolution was probably misplaced.

Ramblin' Man by The Allman brothers probably contains the greatest line in rock music history regarding family history and the back of the bus. Tonight the song serves as TKC tribute to local street life as "larger forces" might impede our journey but hopefully don't stop our forward movement.

As always, thanks for reading and have a safe & fun Saturday night.
