Kansas City Parking Lot Crackdown: Deterrence Or Distraction?!?

The sordid business of Kansas City parking lots dominates the discourse this week. 

As always, TKC merely serves to provide context and a not-so-safe space were our blog community can address the culture and politics of the situation better than anywhere else . . . Even social media. 

A few things that the plebs might not be able to piece together on their own . . .

Let's not forget that one of Mayor Q's main rivals is a Northland family who dominates the parking lot game. 

Even more interestingly . . .

Surface parking lots have always been the enemy of downtown developers and this shoot out blame game has more to do with the construction biz than most can imagine.  

With both of these fun facts in mind . . . 

Let's take one more look at recent reporting and ask an important question . . .

WILL PARKING LOT CRACKDOWNS REALLY KEEP KANSAS CITY SAFE?!?!?

 It seems to us that parking lots dominate the JoCo space but they don't have the same problem with violence as in KC proper . . . Either way, we want to know what readers think.

Lucas responded to the spate of shootings, reiterating his call for passage of a city ordinance he introduced last week that would require owners of surface parking lots in the city’s entertainment districts to get a permit from the police department. Owners would have to show proof of $1 million in insurance, keep the area clean, undergo yearly inspections and provide fences, security lighting and surveillance cameras.

The districts include Central Business District area, 18th & Vine, the Country Club Plaza, Westport and the Crossroads.

After shootings, Kansas City mayor wants owners of private parking lots to get police permits
