Behind the scenes the battle to serve as the next Kansas City Mayor has already started . . . And this time around things look like they're getting "tense" early.
To wit . . .
INSIDERS ARGUE OVER "CONFLICTED" FEELINGS ABOUT DONATIONS TO MAYOR PRO TEM PARKS-SHAW!!!
Here's just a quick piece of the conversation concerning the council lady and mayoral contender along with a talking point gaining traction amongst insiders . . .
"It's reasonable that big donors feel some level of concern about donations to Parks-Shaw. With her husband serving as Public Works director, any company that has business with the city could feel pressured to donate," one insider said. "It's nothing that needs to be mentioned out loud but obviously people are thinking it when they are approached for their support . . . Putting people in a situation where they can't say 'NO' outright isn't a good look and honestly it could be a disadvantage for her campaign."
A bit of www.TonysKansasCity.com perspective . . .
This is pretty much politics 101 in Kansas City and, actually, there's a solution.
Mayor Sly James had this same problem and it's solved by the winner after a close victory.
In KCMO election winners hold what's often called a "get right" party and local power players are given A SECOND CHANCE to donate to the winning team as long as they didn't get too nasty during the campaign. These meetups don't make much news but they're important inasmuch they preserve the status quo and corporate/developer rule over local politics.
Still . . .
The concerns about Parks-Shaw donations still merits mention if only because the biz community has yet to pick a favorite which is typically what wins most elections before a single ballot is ever cast.
Developing . . .
