Homicide 800 blk of Benton
This afternoon, just after 4:30 PM, patrol officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Benton on a reported shooting.
As officers arrived they were directed to the intersection of 8th and Benton, just to the east. There they located an adult male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. KCFD personnel responded and medics pronounced the victim deceased on scene.
This is being investigated as a homicide, and a subject of interest was taken into custody pending further investigation. Preliminary information revealed there was an altercation between multiple people that led to shots being fired and the victim being struck. Detectives and crime scene investigators are canvassing the area for witnesses, surveillance footage, and physical evidence.
If anyone has any information they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.
We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.
We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
