Hernandez is facing up to 70 years in prison for all three charges. For the transportation charge, federal statutes carry a minimum sentence of five years with a maximum of 20. For the production charge, Hernandez faces 15-30 years in prison. Lastly, the possession charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

After the DOJ announced the charges, the Independence School District shared a statement, saying the crimes Hernandez is accused of “stand in direct opposition” to the district’s values.
