Here's a fact that many local voters often forget . . .
Kansas City mayors typically end up DESPISED at the conclusion of their tenure.
A quick review . . .
Even former mayor & current Congressman Cleaver wasn't well liked at the end of his second term and civic/biz leaders were desperate to throw their support away from east side leadership as a reaction to his many years in office.
Former mayor Kay Barnes couldn't use her two terms to get into congress and suffered an EPIC blowout to Sam Graves who wasn't yet established as a Missouri powerhouse.
Let's not forget that former Mayor Funky was soooooooo unpopular and universally derided that he had to move out of Kansas City and still rarely returns to this day.
Former Mayor Sly James has worked diligently to claw back some of his popularity but when he left office he lost a string of votes and was seen as "used up" by former allies. The civic set will always love Mayor Sly but just last year the power of his personality wasn't enough to convince voters to support the Royals & Chiefs.
And all of this brings us to Mayor Q who is much younger than his predecessors and must use his time in KC as a stepping stone rather than a career highlight.
To that end . . . Here's a recent peek at a quote from his latest branding effort and public appearance:
Delivering good government.
Producing more attainable and safe housing.
Unabashedly standing up for our values and opportunity for all.
Never abandoning vulnerable groups.
