The U.S. Department of Education is withholding over $6.2 billion in school funding, impacting Kansas with a $45 million reduction.
The withheld funds were designated for programs supporting migrant education, teacher effectiveness, English language acquisition, STEM education and after-school programs.
Kansas leaders, including Sen. Dinah Sykes and Rep. Linda Featherston, criticized the decision, citing its impact on vulnerable populations and school budgets.
