This is a lame flex for the newspaper . . . Actually, she's the wife of a retired cop and it has never been a problem during her public service career.
Here's how the KC Star is highlighting what is actually a pretty good move for the Northland -- A community that desperately need more police . . .
"(Former Council Member Heather) Hall, who is married to retired KCPD Sgt. Eben Hall, will replace Dawn Cramer on the five-member board charged with overseeing the largest law enforcement agency in Missouri."
Consider . . .
Again, the former council lady never had a conflict and this tacit criticism is one of the most petty instances of local "journalism" we've seen from the The Star.
Still . . . We're posting because it's an important perspective and a preview of future talking points in the ongoing & dead-end "local control" conversation.
The basics:
Hall’s appointment was one of several announced Friday by Kehoe.
In addition to her role on the council representing Northland residents, Hall has spent time with the Clay County Board of Election Commissioners and has been involved in the Veterans Community Project and Variety KC.
And here's the activist screed line dutifully relayed by dead-tree media and the so-called paper of record . . .
Sheryl Ferguson, an organizer with It’s Time 4 Justice, called Hall “the worst appointment ever” and “Marjorie Taylor Green locally,” invoking the firebrand Georgia Congresswoman with a history of racist comments.
“She doesn’t know how to interact with her city outside of her bubble,” Ferguson said.
“There’s nothing wrong necessarily with being pro-cop, except for when you have cops that are vilifying certain neighborhoods in Kansas City,” she said. “And until the governor sees fit that there needs to be an appointment from those neighborhoods to the board, you’re never going to have a board that works for the city.”
