Kansas City River Market Crime Victim Finds Her Own Stolen Bike & STILL Plans Move Out

The headline and premise of a recent River Market story has a positive spin but most of the deets contradict the premise and contention that local property crime is getting better.

She recently received a letter on official KCPD letterhead — with Police Chief Stacey Graves’ name at the top — signed by the detective now handling her case.

And just this morning, during our interview, she got a text from that same detective.

That detective told her they’ve identified the suspect involved in the theft. Still, despite the renewed attention, she says it's too little, too late, and her mind is made up.

"We're still moving because our sense of safety is lost. Our trust in the police department is lost — I don't want to live somewhere where I don't feel like I can go to the only people who are here to protect us if they have their hands tied from policies and politics and processes’ she said.

And get this — She tracked down one of her stolen motorcycles herself.

"He was trying to sell this bike — saw the news story, or someone told him about it and got spooked and dumped it there,” she said.
