Kansas City Police Investigate Latest Deadly Shooting At Prospect Convenience Store

This is likely KCMO Homicide #95 so far this year as the level of violence continues to outpace last year at this time by double digits . . .

After controversial protest along Prospect against an immigrant-owned convenience stores, this latest killing sadly reminds us that vendors & merchants along this embattled corridor might not be the problem.

Homicide 18th and Benton

This evening just after 7:15 PM officers were dispatched to the area of 18th and Prospect on a reported shooting. When officers arrived, they located an adult male witness who had summoned them to the area of 18th and Benton advising he heard several gun shots near that location.

Officers responded to 18th and Benton, where they located an adult male victim in a grassy area near a convenience store. The male victim was unresponsive, and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. EMS responded to the scene and declared the victim deceased at that time.

Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to the scene to begin gathering witness statements and collecting any evidence.

Several witnesses remained in the area and have assisted detectives in making headway on identifying an adult male person of interest. The subject of interest left the scene in an unknown direction.

We do not currently have any preliminary investigation that indicates what incidents occurred leading up to the shooting. This is being investigated as a homicide and is ongoing at this time.
