Kansas City Officials Denounce Celebratory Gunfire Ahead Of 4th

Local leaders plead with the unruly populace in order to keep innocent people safe . . . Here's the traditional presser that is often ignored yet still important . . .

On Wednesday, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas and other city representatives highlighted the consequences of firing guns into the air and urged safety ahead of the holiday weekend.

According to Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson, 23 people have already been arrested in Jackson County under Blair’s Law. She asked the Kansas City community for help in keeping everyone safe.

“When celebratory or reckless gunfire is happening, we need you to preserve camera footage, preserve cell phone footage,” Johnson said. “We need you to call the police, because if you don’t call police, they can’t respond and we can’t prosecute.”

Here's how Mayor Q noted the event . . .

"Proudly standing with our Prosecutor, our Chief, and our Representative to remind folks of the dangers of reckless “celebratory” gunfire and to recognize the dozens of charges filed since Blair’s Law.

"What comes up comes down. Respect our community this weekend and every day."
