This afternoon we offer a quick preview of how local medical services will "evolve" in the aftermath of recent legislation that was championed by Prez Trump and moved forward by a slim Republican majority.
Moreover . . .
LIKE IT OR NOT, AND FOR BETTER OR WORSE, THESE CUTS WILL IMPACT EVERYONE!!!
Moreover . . .
Online denizens claiming that reductions in service will only affect illegals or citizens who don't work are offering political persuasion but not an accurate accounting.
Even at first glance . . .
What we see from this report, locally, is that ambulance service and increasing paperwork will confront EVERYONE seeking care . . . To be fair, the goal is to stabilize Medicaid and protect the service for citizens. For better or worse, in practice this means FEWER services for everyone and a lower standard of baseline care which has ALWAYS negatively affected working & middle-class residents as well.
Here's a quote and then more reporting . . .
At University Health in downtown Kansas City, nearly half of all patients are enrolled in Medicaid. President and CEO Charlie Shields said his hospital is already preparing for what’s ahead.
Under new rules, patients will need to provide income documentation more frequently – filing every six months instead of once a year – and prove they are working at least 80 hours per month.
“Full implementation on the work requirements is 18 months,” Shields said. “We’ll be prepared for it.”
The ripple effects go beyond hospitals. In Johnson County, Kansas, Med-Act ambulance services are anticipating budget strain as well.
“We know we’re seeing more call volume,” said Johnson County Commission Chair Mike Kelly. “A significant portion is reimbursed through Medicaid and Medicare. With cuts to Medicaid, we are going to see additional costs that we’ll have to undertake as Johnson County to maintain the level of service that we have for our community.”
