Jackson County Legislature Chairman Disputes Exec 'Delay & Deny' Strategy

For a great many reasons, this is an important statement speaks to the level of frustration with the Executive from throughout the courthouse . . .

More to the point . . .

Here at www.TonysKansasCity.com we understand that Chairman McGee is actually the deciding factor in the success of the recall despite all of the "grassroots" posturing . . . Without his support for the Charter and the voter action . . . We'd be having a VERY DIFFERENT discussion about the recall . . . He won't get much mention for it but behind the scenes he has backed up the will of THOUSANDS OF VOTERS.

Check-it before the morning presser:

Chairman McGee: “Blocking this election is blocking accountability.”

Kansas City, MO — Today, County Executive Frank White Jr. vetoed Ordinance 5993, which scheduled a special election on August 26 to let Jackson County voters decide whether to recall him from office.

Chairman DaRon McGee released the following statement:

“The voters of Jackson County used the process laid out in the Charter—gathering thousands of signatures in good faith, expecting their voices would be respected. But rather than accept accountability, Executive White is now trying to block the election itself.

His veto is just the latest attempt to delay and deny. While he claims this veto protects taxpayers, it actually denies them the right to be heard at the time and place their petitions require under our Charter.

The truth is simple: The Legislature followed the law. We voted unanimously to move this process forward so Jackson County voters—not politicians—can make this decision. This is not about rushing or reckless spending; it’s about respecting residents who followed the rules, met the requirements, and deserve to have their voices count.

We owe it to those residents to protect their right to vote, and I stand prepared to override this veto immediately.”
