Behind the scenes, on the QT and very hush, hush . . . This public endorsement of democracy is ACTUALLY a response to pressure to thwart the recall and struggle to uphold the will of local voters. 

Luckily . . . The will of the electorate prevailed after a great deal of public pressure.

In an 8-0 vote, the Legislature passed an ordinance intending to set an Aug. 26, 2025, date for a special election.

“The people of Jackson County have spoken, and we must listen,” said Legislature Chairman DaRon McGee. “Today’s action by the Legislature ensures that voters will have the opportunity to decide this matter directly, as outlined in our Charter and laws. We’ve heard from many residents -- retirees, small business owners, families -- who are facing real financial pressure and uncertainty.
