From a political perspective, Kansas City activist leader Gwen Grant now controls the political destiny of the Jackson County recall and Executive Frank White. At the very least, she's at the forefront of a historic metro coalition.
Consider . . .
There was an inspiring grassroots movement to deliver signatures but that could have ended with endless & expensive court debate.
Local big biz played an important role behind the scenes . . . But "the Heavies" are often gun shy about public fighting and have their own greedy politics to consider.
Meanwhile . . .
ACTIVIST GWEN GRANT LEVERAGES HER EXCEPTIONAL INFLUENCE & IS NOW THE KEYSTONE OF THE JACKSON COUNTY EXEC RECALL!!!
HOW/WHY?!?
BECAUSE WITHOUT BLACK COMMUNITY SUPPORT JACKSON COUNTY EXEC FRANK WHITE IS COOKED!!!!
It was actually the only/last card the Exec had to play and he was late to the game.
Without leverage over East side voters . . . The Executive will struggle to find a base or anyone to rally to his cause.
So far this is the worst jam we've ever seen confront the Exec and everyone wants him to take the easy way out and resign . . . So far he has VEHEMENTLY refused.
In all of this, activist Gwen Grant proved successful in taking away an important rhetorical option in this courthouse debate and refocusing the conversation on the will of voters.
Here's the word . . .
Urban League President of Greater Kansas City President & CEO Gwendolyn Grant was one of the participants in Thursday's press conference.
"First off, we don't believe anything that comes out of his mouth because he's a liar," Grant said when asked what she thought about White being okay with a November election.
"But secondly, the ordinance says 60 days. The people have spoken. That is the law. This should be done with expediency."
